How We Can Support You
Connect Students to Support
Tutoring Center
The Tutoring Center offers free, personalized support for close to 100 UMD courses. With a tutor in the center, students can:
Work through sample problems with guidance from a tutor.
Have content explained differently.
Talk through "stuck spots" to be more efficient with their time.
Ask a tutor for strategies to succeed in class and study for tests.
Review past assignments, quizzes, or exams to learn from past mistakes.

Student Success Program Courses
SSP courses allow students to become active participants in their learning. Using research-based approaches, faculty engage SSP students in activities designed to promote their success. SSP courses are ideal for undergraduate students from all UMD colleges and departments who want to:
- Contextualize and take ownership of their learning
- Enhance their active academic skill set
- Set and meet goals
- Develop confidence and leadership skills
- Make informed academic and personal choices
- Work individually and collaboratively, developing social and interpersonal skill

Writing Center
The Writers’ Workshop offers free, one-to-one writing support for all members of UMD’s campus community. Our writing consultants will work with any staff, faculty, or student on any writing project at any stage of the writing process. Sessions are held synchronously online or in-person on the second floor of the library.

Enhance Your Courses
Classroom Presentations and Workshops
Partner with the ASC to embed academic skill development, writing support, or other academic success presentations, into your classes. Please email [email protected] and we’ll get you to the person that matches what you are looking for.
Learning Strategies for Your Students (quick tips to share in class)
Faculty in the Academic Success Center created slides with quick tips that you can share with your students in class or during office/drop-in hours.
Each slide is designed to be used one-at-a-time, so it only takes a few minutes to share a learning strategy in class or during an office visit. These tips provide students with actionable steps for preparing for tests or writing assignments, managing test anxiety, recovering from a bad test performance, feeling overwhelmed, and more.
Writing Teaching Support
The Writing Center supports your teaching efforts by consulting with students working on assigned papers or other writing projects, including research papers, essays, reports, UROP proposals, and theses or dissertations.
Experienced Writing staff can also help you design your assignments, determine appropriate grading procedures, and create grading rubrics. In addition, we work with departments or programs to determine how to integrate writing throughout your curriculum.
